The Enneagram and Transformational Leadership

The Enneagram is a powerful tool for self-discovery and personal transformation, and its applications in leadership are numerous. In this 6 hour introduction, led by Catherine Bell and Russ Hudson, you will learn about the nine Enneagram types and how they manifest in leadership styles, as well as how to use the Enneagram as a means of developing leadership skills and becoming a more impactful, effective, and compassionate leaders.

The course will begin with an overview of the Enneagram system and the transformational leadership models.  We will then delve into the nine Enneagram types, exploring how these types manifest in your leadership approach.

In addition to learning about the Enneagram, students will also explore transformational leadership, which emphasizes the importance of inspiring and empowering others to achieve their full potential. Through case studies, role-playing exercises, and group discussions, students will learn how to apply the principles of transformational leadership in a variety of settings, from small teams to large organizations.

Overall, this course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the Enneagram and how it can be used in conjunction with transformational leadership principles to create positive change in oneself and others. By the end of the course, you will have some direct practices to positively impact your leadership.

Catherine Bell

Catherine Bell is a successful entrepreneur, business leader, and best-selling business author. The Awakened Company, which she founded, focuses on helping organizations create healthy corporate cultures through awakening the self, relationships, and team dynamics.

Previously, Catherine founded BluEra in 2008, a Profit 500 executive search and team transformation company. As a Top-200 Growing Company in Canada, Top 10 in Alberta, and Best Workplace, BluEra was a shining example of the Awakened Company System in action. With the sale of BluEra to DHR, Catherine shifted focus to awakening the fire within organizations through her Strategy with Soul consulting and founded The Awakened Company. The Awakened Company aims to awaken the fire within organizations with passion, purpose, and playfulness.

The Awakened Company (2015)—Catherine’s revolutionary business book—was awarded the Nautilus Book Award in Business and Leadership and became a best seller one week after its release. It was also a best seller on Amazon, included in “8 of The Best Leadership Books of 2015,” and was recognized as a top book combining business and mindfulness.

Catherine has been published in Fortune, HBR, Profit, Conscious Company Magazine, Women of Influence, and has written for the UN. She has worked around the globe—from the UK to Cuba—with everyone from Fortune 500 companies to serial entrepreneurs. Catherine has an MBA from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, a sociology degree from Western University, is certified in the Enneagram, and is a yoga instructor. She held a two-year term as a Jarislowsky Fellow at the Haskayne School of Business and is on the Expert Panel for the Canadian Centre for the Purpose of the Corporation. In 2022, Catherine was identified by The Inc. Magazine as one of the Top 10 Innovative CEOs Revamping the Future. In the same year, Catherine also received the Platinum Titan Business Award for Female Executive of the Year in Consultation.

As CEO of the Awakened Company, Catherine now consults all over the world on creating Awakened Companies. Catherine has taught thousands of people the Awakened Company process and worked with hundreds of teams. In 2022 alone, her work spanned twenty-three countries. She hosts in-person sessions with organizations on strategy and corporate culture, international webinars on the Enneagram, and teaches The Awakened Company team process to Queen’s University business school students.

She also started The Awakened Project, it provides funds through various events, partnerships etc. to help women out of poverty through starting their own business with microloans. Catherine has been a Board Member of the Distress Centre and Open to Grow. She is an advisor to the Impact Society and Telus Spark. She completed the Institute of Corporate Directors Not-for-Profit Essentials Program. She recently co-founded a mindfulness app, Awakenly, which uses the Enneagram to ground people into presence and transform their realities.

In addition to being a community advocate, Catherine is a mother, wife, and friend. She loves her spiritual practice, meditating, and windsurfing.

Russ Hudson

Over the last three decades, Russ Hudson has established himself as one of the top teachers and developers of the Enneagram personality typology in the world today. He has been writing and teaching full-time with The Enneagram Institute as well as on his own since 1991 and has co-authored with Don Richard Riso five best-selling books on the subject, including The Wisdom of the Enneagram and Personality Types. These books are widely considered to be not only groundbreaking contributions in the field of Enneagram studies, but also important contributions to the literature of psychological type and have been translated into French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, Korean, Thai, Chinese, Dutch, Polish, Hungarian, Portuguese, Greek, and Czech editions, with more on the way. They are the best-selling Enneagram books in their respective countries. Russ has taught the Enneagram at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s university.

Beyond the Books & Teaching

Russ worked with Don Riso for several years to develop a scientifically-validated test instrument, the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Type Indicator (RHETI), now considered a standard test in the Enneagram field. The RHETI has been used by Fortune 500 companies including Amoco, AT&T, DuPont, Motorola, General Motors (Cadillac Division), Prudential Insurance, and SONY. Actively involved in the Enneagram community, Russ is the founder and president of Russ Hudson Consulting, and is the co-founder of the Enneagram Institute as well as a Founding Director and former Vice-President of the International Enneagram Association—a global organization advancing knowledge of the subject. He holds a degree in East Asian Studies from Columbia University in New York, from which he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

Russ has appeared on Good Morning America, and The CBS Morning Show, as well as on several dozen radio and television shows as an expert on personality type. He has become a popular speaker at conferences and retreat centers around the world including the Esalen Institute, the Wisdom 2.0 Conference, and the Science and Non-Duality Conference (SAND). Besides his extensive work with the Enneagram, Russ is a scholar of East Asian culture and religion, and of the early developments of western religion and philosophy. He is also an avid student of popular culture (film, media, theater, art) and an accomplished musician. He has greatly enjoyed learning about different cultures and cuisines in his extensive travel around the world. He has been residing in New York City since 1980.
